National Public Works Week

 

 

National Public Works Week is a celebration of the tens of thousands of men and women in North America who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works.

    The Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance of all town roads. This includes signs, shoulders, pot hole repair, culvert and catch basin cleaning, snow plowing and treating, snow removal, brush cutting, grading, sidewalks, street sweeping and contracted line striping and pavement markings (directional arrows, crosswalks, stop bars and parking spaces).  Additionally, permits for modification of existing and new driveways and street excavation permits for work in the Town right of way are processed by the Public Works Dept.

    Public Works also provides solid waste and recycling collection and disposal for the Town. Department employees collect material curbside and operate the transfer station.

    The wastewater treatment facility is operated and maintained by The Public Works Dept. under strict NH DES and US EPA guidelines.  Thirteen pump stations are also maintained by department staff.

    The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining the Town’s storm water system and ensuring that the Town is in compliance with our Municipal Separate Storm System (MS4) storm water permit issued by the US EPA.

    The DPW garage maintains the Town fleet for Public Works, the Building Department, the Cemetery and, the Parks and Recreation Department.
